ADOPTIONS

Available for adoption

We have pet quality dogs on our adoptapet.com website. Click here to see our available dogs.

We don’t have our trained livestock guardians listed, we showcase them on our social media and we match them with homes we think they have the biggest chances to succeed and ultimately be happy.

Is a Great Pyrenees the right breed for you?

  • GP’s are wanderers they can dig and clear six feet so you need a sturdy 5+ foot fence

  • GP’s should always be on a leash or they will run away

  • GP’s tend to have same sex aggression

  • GP’s are bred to be independent thinkers so listening is not normal to them

  • GP’s are nocturnal (awake at night)

  • GP’s guard by barking so they bark excessively which is why we are causes where we place them as they tend to become a noise nuisance to those with neighbors at close proximity

  • GP’s shed year round

  • GP’s don’t thrive in apartments or condos, they get bored and become destructive

  • GP’s tend to be resource guarders because of their territorial nature

  • GP’s want partners they rely on their shepherd (you) for guidance. They work best in pairs or packs, otherwise, they are prey themselves.

  • GP’s need to learn how to perimeter walk. They should be learning to perimeter walk your property so they know the property limits.

Adoption process

We try to make our adoption process as easy as possible our main goal is to ensure the dog is a good fit and both are setup for success.  We take our adoption process very seriously because we try our best to ensure a safe heaven for our dogs.

  • Step 1 Please complete and submit an Adoption Application (below)

  • Step 2 We review the application and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you to go over the application and ask any additional questions to ensure we understand your needs and find a good match for you. We will do a virtual home check.

  • Step 3 Once a match is found we require an adoption agreement.

Just like any other working breed these dogs are not born knowing how to protect livestock—they need time, training, and patience to develop into reliable guardians especially during the teenage years. While they have the right genetics, it takes 1.5 to 2 years of consistent effort to ensure they become trustworthy protectors.

We provide support for the life of our dogs. We give transparency and expect the same from our adopters so we can provide guidance and the proper support to mediate a situation or challenge. When you adopt from us we become family and in a family nobody gets left behind or forgotten.

RETURNS AND REFUNDS

Adopting an animal is a lifelong commitment, and we urge you to think carefully before making this decision. These dogs require time, training, patience, and resources to thrive. They will bark—a lot—to protect their territory, likely more than you expect. Please be prepared for this natural behavior.

We do not offer refunds on adoptions. If you choose to return an animal, your adoption fee will be considered a donation to help us continue our rescue efforts. If a dog or cat has been in your home for months or years, we kindly ask for an additional donation to support their continued care. While we do our best to accommodate returns, we cannot always take animals back immediately, especially if they have shown serious aggression. We appreciate your patience and collaboration in these situations.
