The Golden State Great Pyrenees Rescue & Sanctuary

Save a Life. Gain a Guardian. Protect What Matters Most.

GSGPR is a 501(c)-3 non-profit dedicated to the well-being, training, and placement of Great Pyrenees (GP) dogs. This breed is among the world's foremost guardians of livestock, protecting animals and reducing or eliminating the need to harvest intrusive predators. However, GP's large size and natural inclinations do not typically make for good household pets. Their nature is to patrol an outdoor perimeter at night, challenging anyone and anything they don't recognize or perceive as a threat. Such behavior is enormously valuable to farms, ranches, remote sanctuaries, and similar properties, and GSGPR is a critical resource through which these animals can be trained and placed. We are located in the Lucerne Valley, California in the high desert northwest of Palm Springs. We invite your inquiries and welcome your support.

Smart Protection. Proven Results.

Livestock Guardian Dogs don’t just save animals — they deliver measurable returns.
Producers working with trained LGDs have seen lambing and kidding rates increase by up to 100% in one year, and predation losses reduced by 40–70% depending on predator pressure and management.

Each guardian you adopt or train here is part of that success story — keeping livestock safe and wildlife wild.

What we do

We rescue, rehabilitate, and train Livestock Guardian Dogs, preparing them for purposeful work on ranches and homesteads across the country. Adopting one of our guardians means more than gaining a pet — it’s welcoming a loyal working partner who will protect your livestock, watch over your land, and become part of your family.

At our sanctuary, each dog is given a second chance and the specialized training needed to succeed in their new role. These dogs aren’t just survivors — they’re devoted protectors, thoughtfully matched with the farms and ranches where they’ll truly thrive.

If you’d like us to help train your own Livestock Guardian Dog, please visit our training page for more information.
