Goliath (Formely Happy)

Male - 2 YR OLD - Great Pyrenees

Meet Goliath, he was found as a stray skinny, tired, and confused No collar. No microchip. No one came looking. His coat was thin, his frame frail, and his eyes held the quiet ache of a dog who’d been left behind. Underneath that weary exterior was a true livestock guardian, and he’s proven it time and again. He’s an exceptional bird guardian, never harming a single feather — just quietly watching, devoted and calm. He loves people and other dogs too, as long as introductions are slow and respectful. He’s equally at ease lying beside his flock or leaning into your hand for love and pets.

Goliath is smart. He respects electric fencing and knows his boundaries. When a temporary fence fell one night, Happy didn’t wander — he stayed right where he belonged, guarding his animals until help arrived.

Goliath's adoption journey has been filled with almosts. His first foster was too busy for a dog who takes introductions seriously (as any good LGD would). His second home felt like fate… until an accident happened. In a moment of playful joy, Goliath's size got the better of him, and his kind adopter — an older woman — was accidentally knocked down and injured. Through no fault of his own, Goliath found himself homeless again in less than a week. 💔

He has the heart of a guardian, the soul of a gentle giant, and the worst luck which explains his fear of strangers as well.

Field Report:

  • Livestock Exposure: Poultry, goats, and sheep

  • Temperament: Gentle, loyal, and intelligent

  • Training: Knows basic commands, leash trained, respects fencing

  • Travel: Good

  • Health: Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped

  • Stranger Protocol: Needs slow, controlled introductions; prefers a low-traffic home.

  • Other Animals: Good with dogs; bird guardian extraordinaire

  • Kids: Friendly, but his size means supervision is needed around small children

  • Ideal Home: Secure fencing, rural or no-traffic property, experienced LGD home that respects his guardian instincts

Goliath is best suited for a secure, experienced farm home with minimal visitor traffic. Strangers can overwhelm him, but once you’re “his,” his loyalty runs deep. His next family must have secure fencing, patience for slow intros, and the willingness to let him do what he was born to do: protect his flock and love his people.
