This is where instinct becomes experience. Our intermediate guardian program its usually adolescent LGDs—the “teenage phase” where guidance matters most. We shape reliable, independent working dogs through advanced livestock work, predator exposure, and handler responsiveness. These dogs are trained to work reliably under supervision, maintaining calmness and focus under pressure while respecting ranch boundaries. Because our intermediate dogs are in high demand, they typically find their placements immediately upon graduation. To be considered for a dog from this program, please join our waitlist. This allows us to prioritize your ranch's specific needs when a dog becomes available.

Intermediate Guardian Program

Gus

Born March 2025, Male, Great Pyrenees

Gus’s Journey
Gus and his littermates were surrendered to a rescue (not us) when they were just puppies. Some dogs tell you exactly where they belong—and this handsome boy made it clear: rural living is his element. He struggled in a residential neighborhood, not because he was “bad,” but because he was born to work, watch, and lead. Once he arrived here, everything about him changed for the better.

He carries all the hallmarks of a true livestock guardian in the making: confidence, awareness, and a natural instinct to manage his surroundings. He likes to be the ruler of his roost, but in a balanced, respectful way. And with animals? He’s been a star. Sheep, goats, poultry—he’s doing wonderfully with all of them.

He’s well-behaved, intelligent, and takes his environment seriously. All he needs now is the right home to help him reach his full potential.

He does well with commands and gets along well with dogs all sizes, ages, and genders. Loves to get pet and kisses. He is exposed to birds and horses but is just starting his LGD journey as he didn't do well in his foster as an inside pet he likes to go outside and bark which he cannot do now.
