Male - Born January 2026- Great Pyrenees
Denali was rescued from the euthanasia list just one night before his deadline. Thanks to a foster who stepped forward, we were able to say yes and bring him to safety. Denali has the temperament, instincts, and independent nature of a livestock guardian. He prefers to stay awake at night, watching over and protecting his family. Although he has not yet been evaluated with livestock, his brother Rob is doing wonderfully with a variety of farm animals. Denali’s favorite toy is his chicken, and he is ready for a home that understands and appreciates the special qualities of a true guardian. Dixie aka Dolly
Female - 9 months old - Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd
Dolly was surrendered to us just days before getting euthanized due to resource guarding which is built into livestock guardian dogs. She is currently training as an LGD and this girl is a ranch girl she is loving it

Atlas
Male - 10 Months old - Great Pyrenees
Abandonment is a heavy word, but for a Great Pyrenees, it’s a physical weight. When his owners moved, they left Atlas to guard an empty house and a life that no longer existed. He was a protector with nothing left to protect.
But then, the village stepped in.
It started with a neighbor who refused to look the other way.
It continued with a partner rescue that secured his safety.
And it ends here—at The Sanctuary.
Atlas is a reminder that while humans can break a heart, a community can mend it. He didn’t hesitate to trust us, so we didn’t hesitate to save him. Today, Atlas isn't a "leftover" from someone’s old life—he is the centerpiece of a brand new one.
Underneath that giant frame is the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. Atlas is a social butterfly who doesn't believe in strangers—only friends he hasn’t met yet. Whether they are young and bouncy or old and wise, male or female, it doesn't matter to him; he just wants to play. He is currently finishing his quarantine phase, and our next step is LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog) testing to evaluate his working potential.

Sunny
Female - 6 month old - Akbash - Mariposa, CA
At just six months old, Sunshine’s life was almost cut far too short. After developing an upper respiratory infection at the shelter, she was placed on the euthanasia list simply for being sick. We couldn’t let this sweet, innocent puppy lose her life over a treatable illness, so we stepped in and gave Sunshine the freedom walk she deserved.
Sunshine has done well with both male and female dogs. She is confident and naturally more of a leader than a follower. She has also done wonderfully around chickens, goats, and horses. Sunshine is now healthy, safe, and ready for a forever home where she can continue growing into the wonderful guardian she was meant to be.
Dottie
Female - 1 year old - Great Pyrenees
Dottie spent her life doing exactly what a Great Pyrenees was born to do—faithfully guarding her goats and birds.
Unfortunately, inadequate fencing allowed her to wander, and after being picked up by Animal Control, her family chose not to reclaim her. Dottie suddenly found herself sitting in a shelter facing a euthanasia deadline for simply following the instincts she was born with.
We couldn't let her story end there.
Dottie is now safe with us and ready for a family who understands and appreciates this incredible breed. She has previous experience living with and guarding livestock and will need a home with secure, appropriate LGD fencing to keep her safe.

Sweet Lottie was a working Livestock Guardian Dog, spending her days watching over goats and birds alongside Dottie.
Like many Great Pyrenees, Lottie's natural instinct to patrol led her beyond the property's inadequate fencing. When Animal Control eventually picked her up, her family chose to leave her behind—and Lottie found herself facing euthanasia at the shelter.
Thankfully, we were able to get her out in time.
Lottie is now safe and looking for the forever home she deserved all along. She has previous experience with livestock and needs a home with secure, appropriate fencing where she can safely enjoy being the guardian she was born to be.

Falkon
Male - January 2026 - Great Pyrenees
Falkon and his brother and sister were found wandering as strays and ended up in a high-kill shelter. Thankfully, we stepped in to secure their freedom, and Falkon has been showing us what an absolute sweetheart he is ever since!
Here is what makes this young boy so special:
🐐 Natural Instincts: He shows absolutely zero prey drive! He completely ignores the chickens and is incredibly friendly with the goats—no chasing whatsoever.
💋 The Ultimate Lovebug: Falkon is a very loving boy who has a hilarious habit of getting right up in other dogs' faces just to shower them with kisses!
🐕 Social Butterfly: He gets along beautifully with both male and female dogs.
Overall, he is a very well-mannered puppy. Because he came from a stray background where food was scarce, we are currently working with him on some food resource guarding. He is making great progress, but he will need a home that understands how to continue managing and guiding him through this standard puppy behavior.
Falkon is the perfect mix of a sweet family companion and a naturally respectful guardian. He has put his stray days behind him and is ready to bond deeply with his true pack! 🏔️✨

Sweet Boy
Male - 3 months old - Great Pyrenees
He was found alone in a grape orchard suffering from severe mange. A compassionate woman searched the area until she found him, then immediately took him to a veterinarian and began his treatment. When we were contacted, we said yes—and an experienced foster stepped forward to provide the specialized care he needed. He is now safe, comfortable, and making wonderful progress. Once he has fully recovered, he will begin his livestock guardian dog training and prepare for the next chapter of his life.
Buddy
Male - 1 year old - Great Pyrenees
Buddy and his companion Sally were abandoned in the Arizona desert, where they waited outside a grocery store for two months—hoping their owner would return. With temperatures soaring above 115 degrees, a kind rancher and one of our volunteers came together to bring them to safety. Buddy is sweet, gentle, potty trained, leash trained, and a low barker. He has done wonderfully around children, other dogs, chickens, turkeys, goats, and ranch life. After everything he has endured, Buddy is ready for a safe and loving forever home.

Ernie
Male- Born in 2024 - Great Pyrenees
Ernie's story began in the aftermath of a major fire, where he was found wandering as a stray. He ended up at a small local shelter that simply didn't have the space or resources a giant breed like him needs. Tragically, no one ever came forward to claim him.
Despite everything he's been through, Ernie has kept a massive, joyful and happy spirit! He is a truly a happy boy who loves life. Because of his background and strong breed traits, he does seem to have a hard time with other male dogs, so he would do best as an only king or with a female companion.

Venus
Female - 7 Months old - Great Pyrenees
Venus’s survival is an absolute miracle. She, her mother, and her brother Mars were left abandoned, wandering in the elements for weeks. While many people posted about them on social media, nobody actually stepped up to save them. After a massive, freezing storm rolled through, I couldn't sleep knowing they were out there. The next morning, I drove for hours searching for them, finally reaching the point of giving up. But just as I was about to head home, a brilliant rainbow appeared in my rearview mirror. Taking it as a sign to keep fighting, I turned the very next corner—and there they were. Even after rescuing them, the road was incredibly rocky. Two rescues promised to help and then backed out. A foster placement failed immediately when a massive dog fight broke out upon arrival. Refusing to leave these traumatized babies in a dangerous situation, I brought the whole family to our sanctuary, where they have been safe since February.
Like her brother, Venus spent her most critical formative months surviving in the wild. Because of this, she possesses the primitive, independent instincts of a true, old-school Great Pyrenees.
The Voice of the Sanctuary: Venus takes her guarding duties very seriously. She loves to bark, and she does it with purpose—alerting loudly to any predators, wildlife, or changes in her environment.
The Clever Escape Artist: Venus is highly intelligent, observant, and determined to patrol. She uses her mouth to chew, break boundaries, and dig. If there is a weak spot in a fence, Venus will find it. She requires a home with heavy-duty, reinforced fencing to keep her safe.
Deeply Connected: Venus is profoundly attached to her mother and her brother. Because she had to fend for herself for so long, she is not super human-friendly yet. She also has a fierce hatred for restraint—she and her brother have chewed through over a dozen collars and leashes!
A Faithful Heart: Despite her independent streak, Venus has learned what "home" means. Whenever she manages an escape and goes for a loop around the block, she never looks for trouble or picks fights. She always comes right back to the sanctuary, searching for me. She knows she is safe here.
Venus is not a standard neighborhood pet; she is a majestic, primitive guardian. She needs a breed-savvy, experienced adopter who understands feral or semi-feral LGD behavior. She has been exposed to goats, sheep and birds. She still finds chickens fun but has been doing well with goats.
She will thrive on a secure ranch, farm, or large acreage where her natural desire to bark, patrol, and protect is welcomed. If you have the patience to let her bond at her own pace, the structural security to keep her contained, and a deep respect for the independent spirit of the Great Pyrenees, Venus will make an incredible lifelong partner.

Mars
Male - 7 Months old - Great Pyrenees
Mars’s journey to our sanctuary is nothing short of a miracle. He, his mother, and his siblings were left abandoned, wandering the elements for weeks. Nobody would step up to help them. People posted about them for two solid weeks on social media, but they remained stranded. Then, a massive storm hit. The next morning, unable to sleep knowing they were out there freezing, I drove out to find them. I drove for hours until I was ready to give up and head home. But as I looked in my rearview mirror, a brilliant rainbow appeared through the glass. I took it as a divine sign to keep searching. I turned the very next corner, and there they were. Somehow, I got the entire family into my car. But the heartbreak wasn't over. Two different rescues promised to take them and then backed out. Then, a foster stepped up, but the moment we arrived, the foster's resident dogs launched into a massive fight. I refused to leave these precious babies, so I brought them to our sanctuary, where they have been safe since February.
Because Mars and his family spent those critical early months fending for themselves, he behaves like a traditional, primitive Livestock Guardian Dog.
The Ultimate Watchman: Mars loves to bark, and he does it for a living. He is intensely aware of his surroundings and will loudly alert to any predators or changes in the environment.
The Escape Artist: Mars is incredibly clever and driven to patrol. If there is a weakness in a fence, he will find it. He uses his mouth to chew, break things, and dig his way out. High-security, heavily reinforced fencing is non-negotiable for him.
A Loyal Heart: Here is the beautiful thing about Mars: even when he manages an escape and goes for a jog around the block, he never picks fights, and he always comes right back looking for me. He knows this sanctuary is home, and his loyalty to his people runs incredibly deep.
Independence & Quirks: Mars is very attached to his mother and siblings and is still learning to trust human hands. He requires a patient adopter who understands feral or semi-feral LGD behavior. He also currently hates the leash—he has successfully chewed through over a dozen collars and leashes!
Mars is not a dog for a suburban backyard or a first-time owner. He needs a dedicated, breed-savvy home—ideally working a ranch or a large, securely contained acreage—where his natural instinct to guard, bark, and patrol is appreciated rather than punished.
He needs a patient soul who will let him bond at his own pace, work through his leash phobia, and provide the fortress-like containment he needs to stay safe.
